Fast charging works only when your phone and charger speak the same language. These languages are called charging standards, and three names come up most often: PD, PPS and QC.
USB Power Delivery (PD) is an open standard for USB-C. The charger offers a few fixed voltages and the phone picks the one it needs. iPhones, most Android phones, iPads and many laptops use PD, so it is the best choice if one charger must serve several devices.
Programmable Power Supply (PPS) is part of newer PD versions. Instead of a few fixed steps, the charger adjusts the voltage in small steps while charging, which keeps the phone cooler. Many Samsung phones need PPS for their fastest mode (often labelled Super Fast Charging).
Quick Charge (QC) is an older fast-charging standard found on many USB-A chargers and Android phones from the last few years. Newer QC versions also work with PD.
20W or more, with a USB-C to Lightning or USB-C cable.
At the wattage your phone lists, often 25W or 45W.
Check the phone's specifications for the standard it names.
Covers both standards, so it suits most phones today.
Yes. For USB-C fast charging, use a cable rated for at least the charger's wattage. Our guide How to choose a Type-C cable explains the ratings.
PPS is part of newer PD versions. A charger marked "PD + PPS" supports both.
Yes, it will charge. It may charge at normal speed if the phone only supports QC for fast charging.
No. Look for the standard (PD, PPS or QC) and the wattage, not just the words "fast charging".
